47 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park, BUNA KUSATSU Onsen Inn is a recently renovated property set in Kusatsu and offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. This 3-star guest house offers luggage storage space and a shared lounge. The guest house has parking on-site, a hot spring bath and a shared kitchen. Super clean, the room is very spacious, has two shared-but-private onsen baths (meaning you can lock it for your own use). Kitchen fully equipped with grill, microwave oven, pan stoves, dishes and cutlery, fridge. The toilets are shared but there are plenty in the inn. Kotatsu in the shared living room! Ayana san, the person taking care of the place, is super helpful and friendly (she gave me a lot of tips about the local baths, to contacting the bus station to make sure I got the right information for onward journey).
Kusatsu
Located in Kusatsu in the Gunma region, Oyado Yukizumi provides accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. This 3-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and a housekeeping service. This little Ryokan-style hotel was so nice that I missed it very much after leaving Kusatsu Onsen. I have stayed in a total of 14-16 hotels all over Japan by now (over the years) and this is easily one of the best (if not the very best). I appreciated the vegetarian breakfast very much: it was very elegant as well as nutritious. They also checked the ingredients with me. The wide Tatami mat area exceeded expectations: I could relax with panoramic views of the snow capped mountains while dining or just working (digital nomad-ing was easy with fast wifi). There were many drawers and cupboards: storage space was never an issue. The Toto Smart toilet was more advanced than those variants in 5-Star hotels. The hotel is proximate to all the important places and just opposite the bus stand: I only just had to cross the road with my luggage. I also discovered multiple short routes to Yubatake every single day (I stayed for three days). The same family/organisation also operates the Yume Hana restaurant next door and guests of Oyado Yukizumi receive a complimentary beverage service while dining in Yume Hana. The Yukata they provide is very nice and I wore the same to the main Onsens in the area. The staff are very caring and kind hearted, for example, when I was leaving, seeing that it was raining, they asked me to take their umbrella with me (I declined the same). Later, I missed the level of kindness and attention to each individual guest I received while staying here - that is something you will not get from large branded hotels. Thank you, Oyado Yukizumi, I was very touched.

The owner Miki was very kind and helpful, gave us information we need before the trip and on arrival. The room was perfect to me, with great view of another traditional hotel covered with beautiful white snow. We ordered breakfast, which is very delicious and so rich that's good for a brunch 😋 We also tried dinner, very nice and even too much for me. 😆

Kusatsu Kokusai Ski Resort is 1.1 km from the property. This was one of my favourite stays during my trip to Japan! Our twin room was cosy, comfortable and so clean. The beds were the comfiest we had in Japan; I had the most relaxing sleep while staying here. We absolutely loved the breakfast we had, and everyone at the hotel was so kind and friendly. Their hospitality was the highlight of the trip! We stayed two nights and the chef made us a different meal each morning, and took us through the dishes as he brought them to us, and we were given delicious welcome sweets and matcha when we arrived. The breakfast room was so cosy with a fireplace and free coffee and tea. The location is excellent and easy to find; it was only a couple of minutes walk to the bus terminal and to the Yubatake, which is where most of the shops and restaurants are located. The four private onsen are also wonderful. We got to try out two, and we never found that we had to wait or miss out on using one of them when we wanted to. I loved the little baskets containing towels, pyjamas and toiletries that we were given. There are plenty of toiletries available in each of the onsen, and the pyjamas were so comfortable I wish I could have brought a pair home!

Minakami
Located along Houshi River, Houshi Onsen Chojukan features a public hot spring bath, Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and Japanese cuisine. A wooden building stemming from 100 years ago, the property breathes a historical atmosphere. Our fourth stay here and we are still absolutely smitten with this place. Comfortable rooms, wonderful staff, delicious food, and the best baths in the prefecture, all wrapped up in a cozy, creaky, glowing inn nestled deep in the woods.

The hotel offers ski storage and luggage storage. A hot-spring bath can be reserved for private use, for a fee. An authentic Japanese breakfast is served.
The staff was the most outstanding, polite staff I've ever had the plesaure to be treated with. This is what Japanese hospitality is like. I truly respect it.
The rooms were big enough and very clean. The hotel in general was very well kept and the Japanese astethic was great.
We also stayed in a private Onsen of the hotel for an additional charge, which was totally worth it. It was an outside Onsen and it was snowing - truly romantic.
The price for value is excellent and the location is great too. Just a 3 minute walk to the city center.
