St John's Lodge is an award-winning guest house situated between Windermere village and the Lake at Bowness Bay. We had such a wonderful stay at this lodge! The place is very cozy, spotless, and clearly well cared for. Since it’s run directly by the owners, the service feels personal and truly superb. The location is excellent—just a few minutes’ walk to both Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere town, making it very convenient. One thing that really stood out was the thoughtful touches: complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cookies, all refilled daily—something you don’t usually get at hotels. We booked this for our advance wedding anniversary and were greeted with a sweet little surprise, which made our stay extra special. We only paid a small amount for an additional chocolate treat, which was absolutely worth it. Breakfast was also fantastic, with plenty of options to choose from. You can really feel the love and care Rich and Ada put into running their lodge—it makes all the difference. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Lake District!

Situated in 400 acres of deer park and woodland, this prestigious 4-star hotel features a spa with an infinity pool and a modern gym. The AA-Rosette restaurant has lake views. Stunning hotel inside and out, with beautiful lake views and perfectly decorated for Christmas. All the staff we spoke to were polite, friendly and went the extra mile to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Our suite was cleaned to a high standard, well maintained and quiet throughout our stay. We have already booked to return next year…

In a peaceful residential area of Windermere, this friendly guest house is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Bowness in the Lake District is a 10-minute walk away. We had a fantastic stay at Thornbank Guest House in Bowness-on-Windermere. It’s run by Jane and Mark who are a lovely, lively couple who made us feel genuinely welcome. The rooms were beautifully kept: spotless, cozy, and very comfortable. The location is excellent. Just a 10 minute walk from the shops, restaurants, and attractions around Windermere. Breakfast was great every morning and really set us up for the day. Jane was incredibly helpful, offering great tips on where to go, what to book, and the best timing for different activities, which made a big difference to our experience. All in all, a very pleasant stay. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Lake District!
