Akira was super helpful and caring during my stay. He helped out in everything I need, even helped me to call to see if there's any instant film around. I ordered dinner which is not in my plan, food was well prepared and tasted fresh and yummy. The next day Akira drove me to the Monkey park, after that he went to pick fresh bamboo shoots from the mountain, which is the fresh food I ate the other night. Last but the most helpful mama, she so strong and kind, picked me up from the monkey park and helped caught the train back to town. Overall a perfect stay here and one of my best memories in this trip.

The traditional rooms have Japanese-style futon bedding on a tatami (woven-straw) floor. I really liked the athmosphere of it. It felt like traditional Japan. We had half board that allowed us to try japanese food beyond what we would dare to order in a restaurant. The staff was exceptional!

A free shuttle is offered from Yudanaka Train Station, which is a 10-minute drive away. The staff is lovely, the service excellent, and the food delicious. We went off-season so it was very quiet and peaceful to stroll around the little town and visit the public onsen with the yukata and shoes provided by the ryokan. The best one was the bath in the hotel though. They also offer a free shuttle service for the station and monkey park as well. We felt pampered and well taken care of at all times.

This was such a wonderful place to stay! The hosts are very attentive and generous, the room was spacious and clean and the onsen was very very nice and private at no extra charge. We did not order a meal because we had our small child with us, but it smelled so good so when we come back again, we will have to get dinner!
Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi
Located in the centre of Shibu hot-spring area and a 5-minute drive from Yudanaka Train Station, Sakaeya offers Japanese-style accommodations. Guests can enjoy the on-site indoor/outdoor public hot-spring bath and wear the provided colourful Japanese Yukata robes. You can watch monkeys bathing in hot-spring water at the Snow Monkey Park, a 10-minute drive away. This is a true Japanese cultural and cuisine experience that was the highlight of our holiday. The room with private Onsen and private bathroom was exceptional and much better than we imagined for a traditional Raikan and the Onsen experience was worth pushing our comfort zones for. The culinary offerings were incredible (even if many were not to our taste) they clearly pride themselves on perfection, symmetry and are proud of their cultural roots. Some of their dishes have been presented to the imperial household and wearing traditional clothing and private intimate dining you simply couldn’t ask for a truer traditional & cultural experience at the highest end. The Raikan bus to the snow monkeys is only a 5 minute drive and they ask for a small contribution to cover their costs. The private Onsen on the terrace was an absolute treat.

Great location, very clean and good facilities with traditional Japanese room.
Lovely older couple and the room was quite nice. Good location and quiet. Seeing the snow monkeys was amazing. We also took a day trip to Obuse which was nice.
The rooms were beautiful. The staff incredibly attentive. And the private meals were amazing. Having our own Onsen in our room was a wonderful luxury. Though not extremely close to Nagano (an hour by train), the location is close to the train station to Nagano (a 10 minute walk) and very close to the Snow Monkey Park (a 15 minute ride) and mountain towns like Shibu. A lovely time - well worth the splurge.
The location, the Japanese breakfast, rooftop onsen and helpful staff
Great hotel with perfect balance between traditional and modern. The staff and service were out of this world amazing and so were the meals (breakfast and dinner) which were both included. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Great location, very close to station and bus stop to the snow monkeys. The arrival drink and the complementary Sake bar at night made it even more special. Thanks so much to the team at Hotel Tsubakino for the amazing stay!
Wonderful hot baths, great location surrounded by restaurants and nature and a short trip to the monkey park. The best part was the owner who is super kind.
Our stay in Ikariya Ryokan was amazing. The room was spacious and cosy, the location was perfect and the staff was super helpful, hospitable and welcoming. The futon beds were comfortable and we really enjoyed the onsen. Our special thanks for the staff for taking into consideration our vegetarian diets and preparing amazing and delicious breakfasts for us, we really appreciated it! Hopefully we can visit again some day.
We had a fantastic stay here. The rooms are beautiful, stunning views and great location. Highly recommend!
Location, staff attitude, silence and peaceful place at night
We specifically choose this hotel to visit the Jigokudani Monkey Park. For this visit, it was the ideal location! Right in front of the hotel was a bus stop that went to the park. The hotel itself doesn't offer breakfast, but they work together with a hotel nearby for a traditional Japanese breakfast which was a really nice experience for a good price! You also had the possibility to reserve a private indoor onsen, which was a fun experience. They also provided yukata's that you could wear in the room and when going to the onsen.
