We were warmly welcomed from the very start by the incredible team. They did everything they could to give us a memorable stay, from the delicious food (best we had in Sri Lanka and very generous portions), the impeccable service, informative safari and excellent facilities and special touches (star gazing from the impressive viewing platform). Communication was excellent and we really felt so well looked after and had such a special time at Makini Bush Camp. We were so sad to leave and would definitely come back and would recommend to anymore!

The facility is of a very high standard. Cleanliness top! Taking care of customer satisfaction is the main message for all staff. Breakfast and dinner are very tasty. The pool was very clean and loved by the children. Additionally, there are no crowds of guests, so you can relax after a very early safari. The safari organized by Wild Lotus (Nelson guide) was also of a high standard. Thanks to fast track, we were the first car to enter Yala Park and after 10 minutes we saw a leopard in a tree watching a herd of buffaloes. The other cars behind were not so lucky. We highly recommend this hotel

This villa was beautiful and huge with a great pool. Fahim was great for helping us organise a driver, safari tour and meals. The owner Sabirah was also amazing at setting everything up.

RedHill Yala is not a place for everyone. It is a place for someone with an open heart, not just open eyes. It is an utterly authentic place. We stayed as a group of four in a cottage by the rock. The living conditions are very basic, but in this place, it doesn’t matter. There is air conditioning in the rooms, but we chose to use only the fans. The place is looked after by siblings - Ranjeni and Munidasa. Their kindness and care surprised and touched us every day. When we went for an afternoon walk and it got dark, Munidasa made a few calls to locate us and sent a tuk-tuk to ensure we returned home safely. Every day, our hosts moved us with countless beautiful gestures, asking for nothing in return and gifting us with their warm smiles. We dined at RedHill Yala, and what appeared on our table was real homemade cuisine at its finest, prepared by Ranjeni, along with plenty of fresh fruits. You can also count on fully vegetarian meals if that’s your preference, as the hosts themselves are vegetarians. We also went on a safari organized by the owner – ask for the driver/guide named Eranga! He guarantees an unforgettable experience and the best spots for observing wildlife (highly rated by a photographer). The surrounding area of RedHill is a true paradise – a one-of-a-kind place. The enormous rocks surrounding the property protect it from the ocean and create an extraordinary landscape. On one side, there’s an endless empty beach, and on the other, a beach stretching nearly 2 km that leads to the village center. This is not the end of the world nor a total wilderness, but an evening walk in the area might not be entirely safe due to wild animals visiting this region. In the area, you’ll find a few local bars, one restaurant, and a paid swimming pool. The village itself seems forgotten by modern civilization, still bearing many marks of the 2004 tsunami that hit this region. However, RedHill gives you experience worth everything – on one condition – your open heart!

Perfect location and amazing villas I can’t believe they are not booked up the whole time. The staff go above and beyond and took us on a tour to a local fisherman village where we ended up seeing so many animals, took us on sunset walks to the local beach and on the last night we had a torch lit dinner it was absolutely perfect. The villa itself was so clean and spacious and the food was some of the best we have had in Sri Lanka. Couldn’t recommend more.

These villas are amazing! Plenty of room for our family of five. Small property (only two villas) with very attentive service and fantastic manager and staff. Food was great and the surroundings are truly unique - a short trip to Yala and a short walk to the beach (although not safe to swim at the closest one - which was fine as a it was a lovely walk and view.

It’s not very clear in the description, but there are just two villas on the property, which makes everything feel really private and special. The staff is basically there to cater for you and you get a really personalized treatment from them. They were super fun and told us a lot about the area. In fact, the walk to the wild beach next to the villa / fisher man village we did with them we enjoyed it more than the safari we came for. The villa itself is beautiful and the breakfast was very good also.
