Famous for its association with Robin Hood, Nottingham is in the very heart of England. The outlaw’s legend lives on, with many city streets and buildings named after him and his Merry Men. A Robin Hood statue sits at the foot of Nottingham Castle, on a small hill with historic pubs built into it. Also cut into the rock are visitable caves extending under the city.
The Old Market Square is the largest in the UK and becomes a city beach in the summer, with rides and a small pool. Permanent fixtures are the impressive Council House with its Exchange Arcade shops, and the several Nottingham hotels with parking in the surrounding area.
During the 19th century, Nottingham was an important lace-making centre and many Victorian warehouses and buildings remain in the Lace Market area. Neighbouring Hockley is home to the National Ice Centre and independent shops, while the biggest shopping centres are Broadmarsh and the Victoria Centre.
In the western suburbs, by Nottingham University, Wollaton Park surrounds an Elizabethan stately home, while east of Trent Bridge cricket ground is the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont. The University of Nottingham campus is a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city with its grassy spaces, views of the lake and beautiful trees. We had a car, and we were provided with a free parking permit for the duration of our stay. Transport around the city is easy by tram or bus.
We ate at the Orchard restaurant on campus where the menu is good, but there is also a small well stocked supermarket in the Portland building.
Wollaton Hall and deer park nearby is well worth a visit with lovely walks, a nice cafe and the house has interesting exhibitions and friendly informative staff. There is also a childrens; outdoor play area.

None of the shops display the number of the street that they are in. I spent some time trying to find a particular shop. I found the street, but without numbers on the properties, I walked back and forth. I did not visit any of the 'popular places' listed below.
A shopping centre is being demiolished in the middle of the city, involving walking around a building site. Speaking to someone the next day, I gather that the work has been going on for some time.

As an older traveller I found the city centre a little daunting (I lived there in my 20s). I think it has was is called a "vibrant" atmosphere. Lots of different cultures rubbing shoulders which was lovely, and tons of students. Nice to go back for a visit

Very clean and pleasant traffic free city centre.
Very clean and pleasant traffic free city centre. Some nice high quality shops, with several empty unoccupied shops as in most city and town centres. It is over 40 years since my last visit and I feel sure it has improved since my last visit.

I'm a quiet person so I don't enjoy loud and busy streets.
I'm a quiet person so I don't enjoy loud and busy streets. Too many dark areas and alleyways.
Plenty of places to eat though, varied selections.
Nice areas to walk as well with historic monuments.
The hotel is right in the city centre, so it was very easy to walk to many attractions. There are many bars and restaurants nearby. Check in procedure is clear and easy and the room is quite spacious. The walls of the room are thick enough not to hear noise in the other rooms. It is possible to cook your meals there. The deposit returned the next working day (check out was on Friday and the full amount was released on Monday).
The property was freshly decorated and very clean. All the bedrooms were a decent size with comfy beds. Kitchen was well appointed with all you're likely to need and the outside toilet was a welcome addition as there is only one bathroom inside. Having the parking permits was also very welcome so we could park directly outside. There's a lidl and several shops nearby and walking into the city centre only takes 10mins.
- Staff courteous & efficient
- Seemed extremely clean & well ventilated, with hand sanitiser dispensers in the foyer & lifts
- We preferred the reduced level of room servicing, as we didn't have to worry about a cleaner coming in on the first morning
- Use of the hotel's own car park meant no concerns about finding convenient city centre parking just before Christmas. We left the car there for our whole stay.
We liked the room (four poster suite - there are a range of rooms and prices to choose from). The public spaces are colourful and stylish with helpful and personable staff. The hotel is very close to Nottingham Castle and although hemmed in by roads, they were easy to cross and we could not hear any traffic noise.
Right in the city centre and we were lucky enough to get a space in the carpark right under the hotel. Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was buffet but much better than expected from a big city centre hotel. Nottingham has a great choice of restaurants and pubs.
Friendly staff. Accommodated an early check in so I could park my car. Brilliant cooked breakfast. Bus stop directly outside the hotel. Frequent service to city centre. Smart TV with streaming channels too (e.g. Netflix). Spotlessly clean.
Easy walk to city centre. Car park nearby although limited spaces. Restaurants within easy reach. A clean and comfortable room although the bathroom a bit of a squeeze. A well equipped room and a large comfy bed
If you don't mind walking then the hotel is at a good location. However, the road is quite hilly between the hotel and city centre. The staff was lovely and ready to help when needed. Our room was fairly clean.
Fantastic location 5 min walk to city centre and motorpoint arena
Very secure building
Comfortable bed
Great value for location compared to hotels in area
